The Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury received a SAICA Public Sector Excellence Award on Tuesday, 28 November 2016.

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) presented a certificate of recognition to the Head Official of the Provincial Treasury, Ms Bede Nkamba during the 2016 PFMA Audit Outcomes Feedback session held in Sandton, Johannesburg

According to SAICA, the department was awarded this certificate of recognition since it has achieved its fifth (5) consecutive clean audit since the 2011/12 financial year.

The MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Sikhumbuzo Kholwane welcomed the gesture from SAICA, and added that such recognition will spur the Provincial Treasury to work harder and contribute to improvement of audit outcomes across the Province.

"We have begun a process to assist the provincial auditees to improve their audit outcomes. Ten auditees will be subjected to an interim audit process as part of the measures to improve the audit outcomes of the Province.

We are mindful of the fact that our success depends on how many departments, public entities and municipalities moved from their current audit status to the desired level of clean financial administration," said MEC Kholwane.

This recognition adds to a string of accolades that the Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury has received such as the Silver Award during the inaugural Batho Pele Service Excellence Awards (2013) and Annual Public Sector Reporting Award (2011; 2010; 2009 and 2006).
