MEC Bonakele Amos Majuba Profile
Mr Bonakele Amos Majuba completed his secondary education at Mehlomakhulu Senior Secondary School.
In 1991, he obtained a Senior Teachers Diploma from the Transvaal College of Education.
Mr Majuba started his career as a teacher at St Joseph's Comprehensive School, where he worked from 1991 to 2000.
His passion for education and leadership was recognised, leading to his election to the role of SADTU Regional Secretary for the Western Regional Office (KwaMhlanga) in 2001.
He continued to excel in this role, and his efforts elevated him to the position of SADTU Deputy Provincial Secretary in 2006.
Mr Majuba's dedication and hard work saw him being elevated again by his peers to the position of Acting Provincial Secretary of SADTU from 2007 to 2008, and later being elected as the Deputy President of SADTU in 2008.
His influence extended beyond the teaching realm, as the class-conscious democrat became the SACP District Chairperson for Ephraim Mogale District in 2004.
He later took up the role of Provincial Secretary of SACP, Mpumalanga, demonstrating his multi-faceted leadership abilities.
Mr Majuba’ service to education and the community was acknowledged in 2009 when the African National Congress deploy him to the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.
He served on nine (9) portfolio committees between 2009 and 2014, notably chairing the Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads, and Transport in 2012.
His commitment to transparent and accountable governance was evident as he played crucial roles in committees such as SCOPA and the Portfolio Committee on Education.
Mr Majuba served in the Executive Council as the MEC for Education from 29 May 2019 to 17 June 2024, appointment that solidified his reputation as an exemplary leader and advocate for the education sector.
Mr Majuba pursued further studies at Wits University and Regeneysis, demonstrating his dedication to continuous learning.
On 18 June 2024, Premier Mandla Ndlovu appointed him MEC for Finance in the Place of the Rising Sun.
