Mpumalanga Province reduces accruals

RIVERSIDE: The Provincial Government has decreased the quantum of accruals for the year ended 31 March 2016.
This is according to the consolidated report on the government expenditure for the 2015/16 financial year which was presented to the joint portfolio committee at the Provincial Legislature on Thursday, 20 October 2016.
According to the report Mpumalanga is one of the four Provinces that have managed to reduce the accruals during the 2015/16 financial year.
The accruals were decreased from R1 billion in 2014/15 to R792 million in 2015/16 financial year, which represent 25% improvement on a year on year comparison.
A substantial amount of the accruals that the province recorded during the 2015/16 financial year, at R611 million, are within the legislative requirements of 30 days.
The Province has also reduced the accruals in excess of 30 days drastically compared for the the previous five years.
MEC Sikhumbuzo Kholwane said the department will continue to look at ways to improve spending plans and accounting processes across the provincial government.
