The Department of Finance has obtained clean audit report on performance information and financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2012.
This is the third consecutive clean audit, in nearly four years of the current administration, for the department that has amongst its functions the management of
provincial budget, provision of financial systems and support, information technology and financial governance.
The Auditor General gives a clean audit opinion when information on predetermined objectives and financial statements of department or public entity are fairly
presented in all material aspects; show compliance with relevant legislation and regulations and there is adequate disclosure of all material matters relevant to the statements.
MEC of Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa has welcomed the audit outcomes for the department saying this signify the correctness of the financial administration and governance
processes that have also delivered credible provincial budget.
“The department has maintained the working approaches that delivered consistent application of laws and regulations while also ensuring fair and transparent processes
linked to performance information and financial reporting,” said MEC Phosa.
The Province and the department continue to maintain an acceptable level of budget management as part of the programme to improve delivery of services.
“Provincial Government is realising a measurable progress in complying with the collective decision to reduce expenditure on support programmes in our administration,
said MEC Phosa.
The project of redirecting expenditure away from administration to service delivery programmes will continue as the Province seek to ensure total responsibility and
accountability for all resources at the level of service
