Tuesday, 19 February 2013
Former MEC of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Madala Masuku is the new MEC for Finance.
Announcing the changes to the Executive Council at the Provincial Headquarters in Nelspruit on Monday, 18 February 2013, Mpumalanga Premier,
Mr. DD Mabuza said the changes are intended to strengthen the Executive to deliver on the mandates of the people.
MEC Masuku is charged with the responsibility to anchor the work of the provincial government departments from financial governance perspective.
The appointment of MEC Masuku to the provincial finance portfolio is seen as another important boost to the department that has in the past shown
good signs of improvements in performance as measured through the outcomes of financial audits since 2010.
MEC Masuku is not new to the Provincial Treasury environment.
In the late 2012, MEC Masuku and the former MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa (now MEC for Economic Development, Environment and Tourism)
spearheaded a programme to assist municipalities that obtained a disclaimer or qualified audit opinion for the 2010/11 financial year.
The visits to the municipalities were part of the hands-on programme that CoGTA and Provincial Treasury is steering to support the
10 municipalities that either received a disclaimer or a qualified audit outcomes to move towards clean audit status.
