Re-tabling of the Mpumalanga Appropriation Bill 2009

Nelspruit - One month after being appointment MEC for Finance in Mpumalanga, Mrs. YN Phosa will re-introduce the Provincial Appropriation Bill 2009 to the Provincial Legislature.

The tabling is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 30 June 2009 at the Provincial Legislature chamber at 14H15.

This is done in accordance to section 226(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996, which states money may be withdrawn from the Provincial Revenue Fund only in terms of an appropriation by a provincial Act. Section 26 of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), 1999 (Act 1 of 1999) also stipulate that the Provincial Legislature must appropriate money for each financial year for the requirements of the province.

Re-tabling of the Appropriation Bill 2009 follows the main tabling of the Provincial Budget that took place earlier this year on the 25 February 2009.

The province has however, satisfied the requirements of the Division of Revenue Act of 2009 (DORA) by tabling the budget in February, and re-tabling is done following the re-constitution of the fourth Mpumalanga Legislature after the General elections of April.
