2025 BACK TO SCHOOL CAMPAIGN
KEY MESSAGES

Learners across the country will report for the start of the new school year from 15 January 2025. Many learners will attend school for the first time, while others will return to further their education.

Since 1994 government has prioritised education to transform the lives of young South Africans for the better. Our interventions have led to continuous improvements in our education system as reflected in the steady increase in the overall matric pass rate.

Our work in education is directed by the National Development Plan (NDP) which sets targets of a higher pass rate in matric with a greater focus on subjects such as mathematics and science. It sets goals for improving the quality of teaching in schools, colleges and universities to ensure that young people obtain the best education possible.

Over the coming year learners will require support from their parents and educators in order to excel. Families are called to assist learners by providing support systems; it is essential that learners are encouraged on the importance of education.

Government acknowledges the priceless value of quality education which every child has a right to. This right is further strengthened through the recent enactment of the BELA Bill which paves the way for a more balanced, fair and equitable education system.
