MEC Kholwane visits three schools to motivate learners

Thursday, 14 January 2016

As schools opened on Wednesday the 13th of January for the 2016 academic year, MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Mr. Sikhumbuzo Kholwane, accompanied by Miss Mpumalanga 2015 Miss Zamanene Nene pledged his support to learners in three different schools he visited in Thaba Chweu municipality during this year’s “Back to School Campaign”.

When addressing about 500 leaners at Memezile high school on Thursday, MEC Kholwane did not hesitate to voice his concerns about the lack of Computers and Science laboratories in the school.

“It saddens me to learn that there are no laboratories or Information Technology facilities in the school to assist learners with their day to day school activities”

MEC says lack of such facilities poses a serious challenge to better learning and urged officials from Provincial department of Education to take note of the issue and address it urgently.

“As Government we are investing a lot in education but without laboratories or computers, this becomes a serious challenge.” MEC said.

MEC called on all parents to play their part in their children’s education and also pleaded with the School Governing Body [SGB] to preach the message of education as a collective and societal issue.

Meanwhile Miss Mpumalanga Zamanene Nene also motivated learners to work hard and warned them against the use of drugs and teenage pregnancy. She encouraged learners to take education seriously as it can change their family circumstances.
