Mpumalanga Department of Finance held a supply chain management roadshow in Siyabuswa on Thursday, 08 December 2011.

The roadshow is part of the departmental programme to assist targeted groups, especially the people with disabilities, with information that can enable them to participate meaningfully in the economic development within the communities.

Addressing more than 300 people attending the roadshow, Acting Head of Department, Mr Junior Mbatha said unjust demand and supply management practices have the potential of denigrating the status of people with disabilities.

He said private and public sector managers have a responsibility to ensure that procurement practices promote and protect the rights and dignity of all people with disabilities.

“The government and private sector must provide social and economic opportunities fairly to the people with disabilities so that they too can contribute to the development of their communities."

“It is important that the public and private sector procure works, goods and services from companies that owned or have the requisite representation of people with disabilities in order to holistically address the socio-economic challenges that they experience,” said Mbatha.

The Department of Finance in the custodian of supply chain management policies and programmes in the province. It is expected to provide oversight on performance of the provincial government and advice on processes to ensure equitable, fair and transparent public procurement for works, goods and services in the province.
