MEC for Finance, Madala Masuku and Team Finance pulled all efforts in celebrating the Mandela Month in July 2013.

The marathon Mandela month programme touched the hearts and souls of local communities, from Umsholozi, Elandshoek to Elukwatini from the 11th – 19th July 2013.

Nelson Mandela International Day is a special occasion which is used as a call to action for all the people, everywhere in the world, to take responsibility for making the world a better place for everyone.

MEC Masuku said the celebrations of Mandela Day give practical meaning to the hopes and wishes that Dr Nelson Mandela has for the nation.

“We are blessed to have such a unifying soul as that of Tata Mandela in the African National Congress and South Africa.

“We are a very fortunate generation because we live in the era where all can see, touch and feel the manifestation of Madiba’s goodwill”, said MEC Masuku.

MEC and local leadership together with various stakeholders brought the services to the community of Elandsfontein the 11th July and topped the festivities for Mandela month by renovating a centre for foundation phase learners on the 12th July 2013.

But it was the celebrations with the delighted children D&C Primary School in Elukwatini that gave the truest meaning to the celebrations of the day.

The morning assembly was moving, with children rendering the warmest birthday song, in the background of handmade post cards wishing Madiba well during the historic day of 18th July in the world calendar.

MEC Masuku said, “It is interesting that these kids as young as they are, know who Mandela is and what he has done for the country and the inspiration he had on people of the world.

I am pleased that this day is giving a very awesome sight in bringing people together and it instills in them the caring spirit, commended MEC Masuku.”

MEC also actively participated in the renovations at the Embhuleni Hospital, where together with his team fixed light bulbs and plastered parts of the building while the officials went on to paint the walls and cut the long grass down on the field.

The Department of Finance in conjunction with Public works, Roads and Transport also brought smiles to the Local Christian Network Centre in Msholozi which is an orphanage home.

The departments donated sanitary towels, food parcels, and clothes and conducted a cleaning campaign at the centre as a kind gesture to observe the 67 minutes contribution for Mandela.
