Barely a day after being sworn-in as the MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Honourable Pat Ngomane hit the ground running by meeting the Provincial Treasury staff on the 30th May 2019 (Thursday).

The newly appointed MEC was introduced to staff by the Acting Head Official, Ms Gugu Mashiteng who emphasized that the new political Head of Provincial Treasury is a people’s person and that everyone will find it easy to work with him.

True to this colourful introduction, MEC Ngomane shared some humorous moments with his new treasury team during an hour long interactive welcoming session at the Head Office, in Riverside Complex.

He dispelled the notion that leaders are always right and cannot be advised by officials, and added that he is going to listen to everyone irrespective of rank in the workplace.

“I want you to engage with me. If I say this (referring to his shoe) is a cap, you must be able to tell me that it is not a cap but a shoe.

I don’t want to surround myself with people who will say hey sokhulumile MEC (the MEC has spoken) we can’t say anything - that will mean you are not a team player”, said MEC Ngomane.

MEC Ngomane is not a new in the Provincial government as he was the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison and also a member of the Governance and Administration Cluster which includes the Provincial Treasury in the last administration.

He expressed confidence in Team Treasury but quickly appealed to all official to work even harder to ensure that the whole administration tastes the same level of positive audit outcomes as the Provincial Treasury.

Jubilant Treasury staff welcomed him with open hands and they promise to work with him in consultation and collaboration.
