Provincial departments submit their financial statements for auditing

31 May 2005

Nelspruit – All Mpumalanga Departments submitted their financial statements for the financial year ending 31 March 2005 to the Provincial Auditor General, Douglas Maphiri for auditing.

According to section 40 of the Public Finance Management Act, Accounting Officers must submit their departmental financial statements to the Auditor General within two months after the end of the financial year.

The Provincial Treasury ensures that all departments submit their financial statements on time.

The Provincial Government Director General, Advocate Stanley Soko said he was happy to see all provincial departments submitting their financial statements for auditing on time.

“We have met our targets and we hope that we will all be getting unqualified reports when the Auditor General completes auditing all the statements,” Advocate Soko said.

Maphiri told all the financial officers that once statements were submitted, they could not be withdrawn.

However the Auditor General will show accounting officers deviations should there be any, and give them an opportunity to rectify the deviations.

He appealed to senior officials within government to dedicate their time on audit related issues within their departments.
