Mpumalanga department of Finance introduces government procurement reforms

05 October 2004

The Mpumalanga Department of Finance will host the first ever conference on Supply Chain Management, the new procurement system of Government.

The procurement system replaces the old procurement system through the Provincial Tender Board, which has ceased to exist. This is after the Repeal Bill of the Tender Board Act was approved by the Mpumalanga Executive Council, to pave the way for the decentralisation of procurement of goods and services to Departments.

Why supply chain management?

  • To transform Government procurement and provisioning practices into an integrated function
  • To introduce a systematic approach for the appointment of service providers
  • To create a common understanding and interpretation of the Preferential Procurement Policy
  • To promote the consistent application of ‘best practices’ throughout Government’s Supply Chain

Expected outcomes of the conference

  • Uniform understanding of the Supply Chain Management System
  • Agreement to promote fairness and transparency in the procurement of goods and services
  • Reinforced collaboration between Government and Business on Service Delivery issues

A declaration will be signed at the end of the conference by both Provincial Government Departments and the Business sector, committing themselves to adhering to agreed principles when doing business with each other.

The conference will take place on Friday, 08 October 2004 at the Emnotweni Arena in Nelspruit from 07H00 in the morning. Members of the Provincial Executive Council are expected to attend the conference under the theme, “A People’s Contract to Promote Fairness and Transparency in the Procurement of Goods and Services”.

ALL MEDIA IS INVITED.
