Phosa tables 29 billion adjustment budget for Mpumalanga

MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa today (Friday, 25 November 2011) tabled a proposed adjustment budget of R29.967 202 for service requirements of Mpumalanga Provincial Government and the Legislature.
The Provincial Fiscal Framework makes available R769 million 247, thus increasing the appropriated funds from the current financial year from R29 billion 197 million 955 thousand to R29 billion 967 million 202 thousand.
The province received R283 million 491 thousand to cater for the higher than anticipated wage bill for the current financial year.
Other priorities that are funded in this adjustment budget include:
- R3 million 960 thousand is allocated for repair work to infrastructure damaged by floods that the province experienced in January and February 2011. The fund is made up of R3 million 600 thousand of Education Infrastructure Grant and R360 thousand from the Housing Disaster Relief Grant in the 2011/12 adjustments. A further amount of R10 million is provided for any disasters that can occur.
- R8 million 620 thousand is allocated to enhance security measures at the 10 prioritized hospitals, that is Middleburg; Witbank; Embhuleni; KwaMhlanga; Mmametlake; Shongwe; Barberton; Rob Ferreira, Themba and Piet Retief.
- The adjustment budget also provide for the function shift of Traffic Management, adding R331 thousand to the Department of Safety, Security and Liaison. Furthermore, R100 million is added to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Tradition Affairs to give effect to function shift from the Department of Human Settlements.
MEC Phosa urged all stakeholders to commit to prudency in utilization of the limited resources, and demonstrate collective loyalty to the objective of a better life for all.
