MEC Phosa spent time with children, donates appliances

MEC of Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa spent time with children and donated groceries, furniture appliances and other utensils to the stimulation centre for people with disabilities in Volkrust on Monday [16 July 2012].
The donation of the furniture (multi-plates stove, washing machine, dish washing basin, 4 plate gas stove, freezer, LCD and DVD set) and other utensils such as stimulation toys, blanket etc at S’bathanda Benje Centre were made on the first day of the three-day programme which will culminate in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July 2012.
MEC Phosa said the contribution that the sponsors and staff members made will go a long way in ensuring that the centre is able to deliver the most important and humane call of serving others.
Other donations made to the centre include a sick bed which is critical to the efforts of the centre to apply for state grant.
The centre serves 30 disabled persons and children ranging from 8 – 10 years and 16 – 25 years of age.
Meanwhile the officials of the department are busy at work to ensure that that two destitute families at Perdekop and Amersfoort benefit from goodwill deeds of the officials and sponsors as part of celebration of Mandela Day.
