Mpumalanga has spent 50% of its 2005/2006 budget

The Provincial Government of Mpumalanga is the best performer of all Provinces with regard to spending its allocated budget of R15, 075 billion, half way through the financial year.

As at the end of September 2005, the province has spent R7, 513 billion, which translates to 49, 8 % of its total budget. It is followed by the Northern Cape at 49, 3 %. The expenditure shows that the province is spending well, and is likely to utilise all funds come the end of the financial year.

On the capital budget of R1, 073 billion, Mpumalanga has spent 52, 4 % followed by Gauteng at 48, 9 %. The biggest capital budget in the province is in the Departments of Public Works, and of Roads and Transport, which both have spent 70, 6 % (R319, 277 million) of the combined budget of R452, 189 million.

The province has also spent 50, 8 % of its health budget of R2, 480 billion, and 48, 7 % of its education budget of R5, 737 billion.

In terms of own revenue collection, the Province has already collected R183, 5 million (67, 7%) out of the R272, 407 million target set in March 2005.
