MEC Masuku calls on local business and government to improve province’s socio-economy

Government and business must join hands to build a visible and successful local economy, said MEC for Finance, Madala Masuku during the Government-Business Forum at Libangeni
Community Hall in Vaal Bank on May 14.
MEC Masuku called on local businesses to partner with government to improve the socio-economic situation of the people in the Province.
The Government-Business Forum was part of the Executive Outreach Programme held at the Dr JS Moroka Municipality from 14 – 16 May 2013.
The forum was well attended by all province-based Public Entities and National Parastatals that are critical to the development, empowerment and financing of small business and
cooperatives.
He said there is urgent need for creation of new businesses and for the Municipality to attract more investment to respond to high unemployment rate.
The MEC said the Provincial Government will support the proposed business summit to assist with small businesses development in the Dr JS Moroka Municipality.
It is hoped that the summit should assist emerging business and cooperatives to improve their business, empower them to be competitive and enable access to available opportunities
to grow local economy.”
Mr Masuku also emphasized that it is important for the government, business and civil society to work together to ensure effective delivery of youth-oriented socio-economic
programme in the province.
He reaffirmed the commitment of government to ensuring that service providers are paid within days of receipt of invoices and complete documentation to enable government-business
transactions to be effected.
“The Provincial Government has resolved to elevate the responsibility and accountability for satisfaction of this business imperative to all the Accounting Officers and Chief
Executives of the provincial departments and public entities respectively,” he said.
The Provincial Government spent more than R1 billion on various service delivery programmes in 2012/13 financial year in the Dr JS Moroka Municipality. The expenditure included
provision of education and health services and also implementation of Comprehensive Rural Development Programme amongst others.
