Mpumalanga has spent 72 % of its 2005/2006 adjusted budget

The Provincial Government of Mpumalanga has spent 71, 8% of its adjusted budget of R15, 882, 730 by the end of the third quarter of the 2005/2006 financial year. This is above the national average of 70, 7%. The expenditure as at the end of December 2005 was R11, 411, 425, after the provincial budget was increased by R807, 357 million in November 2005.

At the end of the second quarter, the province had spent 49, 8% of its budget of R15, 075 billion (before adjustment), which was also above national average of 46, 8%. This means the provincial expenditure is continuing to improve.

In terms of own revenue collection, the Province is performing well after raising R269, 985 million (96, 9%) of the R278, 639 million target set. This is above the national average of 82, 0%, and we believe we will reach the target or even exceed it.

Breakdown of major spending areas

  • Education: R4, 330 billion (72, 6% of R5, 964 billion)
  • Health: R2, 000 billion (75, 4% of R2, 653 billion)
  • Social Development: R2, 862 billion (69, 6% of R4, 111 billion)

Mpumalanga has spent 72 % of its 2005/2006 budget

Capital expenditure is as follows:
  • Health: R184, 196 million (69, 4% of R265, 398 million)
  • Public Works, Roads and Transport: R448, 493 million (86, 5% of R518, 235 million.

Expenditure of the Provincial Integrated Housing and Human Settlement Development grant is at 64, 7%, which translates to R207, 623 million out of R321, 123 million.
