MEC Phosa goes an extra mile for the iconic father of the nation

Mpumalanga MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa together with the newly elected mayor for Dr. Pixley ka Isaka Seme local municipality, Mr Vincent Malatji will lead a contingent of departmental officials during an eventful activities to celebrate Mandela Day.

MEC Phosa and her department’s officials will dedicate at least 67 minutes of their time renovating, painting, gardening and cleaning the homes of identified families during the four-day long campaign in Daggakraal, Volkrust, Wakkerstroom and Amersfoort.

“The department’s campaign builds on the previous year’s celebration in which we successfully supported the initiatives that sought to make a difference in the lives of the selected community members in the area,” said MEC Phosa.

The programme kicks-off on Friday, 15 July in Amersfoort where the MEC is expected to participate in the renovations of homes and Sikhethokuhle Stimulation Centre for children with disabilities.

The campaign will reach its peak when MEC of Finance, Mrs Y.N (Pinky) Phosa handover fully furnished homes to two families in Wakkerstroom Daggakraal, donate clothes to children and unveil the newly renovated Sikhethokuhle Stimulation Centre for children with disabilities on Monday, 18 July.

MEC Phosa said the celebrations of Nelson Mandela Week and Nelson Mandela International Day are timely reminders to all the people, everywhere in the world, to take responsibility for making the world a better place for everyone.

July 18 was unanimously adopted by the United Nations as the “Nelson Mandela International Day” on the 10th of November 2009. The aim of the annual celebration of the day is to inspire individuals to take action and inspiring change by dedicating a 67 minutes of their time to help change the world for the better and in so doing, build a global movement for good and ultimately empower communities elsewhere.

This year’s campaign is celebrated under the theme “Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day.”
