14 October 2011

Nine pupils from Wakkerstroom circuit in Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality will start the end-of-year examination with great motivation following donation of nine laptops and computer accessories this week.

The nine pupils are amongst the top learners that were identified through assessment of their academic performance by the principals of the nine secondary schools in the circuit.

Addressing a total of 2000 pupils during a career fair and exhibition, MEC Pinky Phosa urged all stakeholders to work together to improve the education of African children.

“Investment in the education of children, in this part of the province, will go a long way in changing the face of this community.

“We must therefore contribute to all endeavours to help the learners to choose the school subjects that match their career aspirations and that which can bring sustainable development in this community, said MEC Phosa.

Phosa also urged individuals and the business community to walk side-by-side with the provincial government to assist the learners to access tertiary education opportunities.

She also handed over educational accessories which includes school bags that were donated by the National Institute for Higher Education, Microsoft SA and South African Brewery Limited, to the learners as a form of motivation ahead of the end-of-year examinations.

MEC Phosa invoked the slogan of provincial education which is “making education everyone’s business”, to rally all stakeholders to play a part in ensuring that the province receives improved examinations outcomes.

She called on all stakeholders - business community, school governing bodies, parents, educators, learners and individuals – to exercise their responsibilities to ensure that African child gets a decent education and is also guided to fulfil his or her career goal.
