MEC Phosa shares Christmas moment with orphans

MEC for Finance, Mrs Pinky Phosa hosted a Christmas party for destitute and orphaned children in Amersfoort in Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality today.

The pre-Christmas party is part of the annual programme of reaching out to the needy children in various part of the province.

A hundred and thirty orphaned children and eleven destitute and child-headed families from eleven wards in and around Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme received toys and groceries respectively, during a fun-filled day at the Amersfoort Primary School’s sports field on Thursday, 14 December 2011.

The children were treated to numerous activities that range from water sliding, jumping castles and innovative games such as volley ball, netball, soccer.

“I am very happy to be here. I am enjoying every bit of this rare festivity,” said Zandile Sangweni (12) from the nearby Wakkerstroom area.

Another excited child, Linda Dludlu (9) said “this day means a lot to me. I now feel like other children in my community”.

Phosa said the Christmas party is one of our contribution to promoting just cause and actions that will lead to decent living conditions for the children.

“Giving these children an opportunity to attend such events will occupy their minds and remind them that they have a place in our thoughts during this time of celebration, said MEC Phosa.

The Executive Mayor , Councillor Vincent Malatji welcomed the initiative of the department to give back to the communities.

“We consider ourselves and these children as very special. We are happy to participate in this event which was organised with love and consideration”, Councillor Malatji said.

MEC Phosa thanked all sponsors and staff members for contributing to the happiness of the children and destitute families during the festive season.
